Attaching files.
UPDATED 2026-08-01You can attach up to 30 files per chat. Drag them into the composer or click the attach chip and pick from your file browser. Supported formats: PDF, plain text, Markdown, common image formats (JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF), CSV, Excel (.xlsx), and most code file extensions.
Each file has a soft limit of about 32MB and a hard limit of 100MB. In practice, the constraint that matters is your context window: LADLE processes uploaded files by including their content in the chat context. A 200-page PDF is roughly 60K–80K tokens, well within the 200K window; a 500-page technical PDF starts to fill the window and leaves less room for follow-up conversation.
Files are stored server-side associated with the chat. They're encrypted at rest and are not used to train Anthropic's models on the API tier we use. When you delete the chat, the associated files are deleted with it (within our 30-day soft-delete window).
For sensitive documents, our Trust page describes what handling categories we're appropriate for. Standard internal-confidential is fine. Regulated categories (PHI, attorney-client, classified) should be reviewed against your organization's data-handling policy before uploading.
The composer will refuse to send if any file exceeds the hard limit. If you hit the count limit and need more attachments, start a new chat inside the same Project — Project files persist across chats and don't count against the per-chat limit.
